Question to Evaluated Model

By Day 5: Build and evaluate one bounded baseline model and explain when its result should or should not be trusted.

Entry gateOn request

Data Science Foundations is a five-day live online WorkReady Capability Sprint for learners with basic Python interested in data science, analytics or AI/ML work. Days 1–4 are 90-minute sessions and Day 5 is a 2–3 hour Capability Showcase; the complete Sprint costs ₹2,000.

The professional problem

Many learners can call a machine-learning library but cannot define the prediction target, choose a valid evaluation method, spot leakage or explain whether a model is useful.

Why this Sprint exists

Teach the work discipline behind a small supervised machine-learning problem: question framing, data exploration, baseline model, evaluation, leakage checks and responsible recommendation.

The five days

Your five days, day by day

Days 1–4 are 90-minute live sessions. Day 5 is an extended 2–3 hour Capability Showcase. Open each day to see what you do and what you leave with.

Day 1Frame the problem90 min
  • Business question vs prediction question
  • Target and features
  • Unit of observation
  • Baseline/no-model alternative
  • Data ethics/privacy

You leave the day with: Modelling brief

Day 2Explore and prepare90 min
  • Missingness
  • Distributions
  • Obvious outliers
  • Train/test split
  • Leakage risks

You leave the day with: EDA + preparation notebook

Day 3Build a baseline90 min
  • Simple regression/classification model
  • Reproducible pipeline
  • Baseline comparison

You leave the day with: First model + results

Day 4Evaluate and challenge90 min
  • Appropriate metrics
  • False positives/negatives
  • Overfitting
  • Error slices
  • Limitations/fairness
  • Human review/revision

You leave the day with: Evaluation + model card draft

Day 5Capability Showcase2–3 hr

Changed-case challenge: Reviewer changes the metric or supplies a shifted sample

  • Learner presents model/business implication
  • Learner reassesses result
  • Explain whether model should be used

You leave the day with: Final proof pack, submitted after the changed-case challenge

Tools

Tools you work with

  • Python
  • Jupyter / Colab
  • pandas
  • scikit-learn
  • matplotlib

Tool names describe what is used in the Sprint. No vendor endorsement, certification or licence is implied.

Work you can defend

Evaluated baseline model + model card

This is the work you explain, question and adapt in the Day 5 Capability Showcase.

Your proof pack

  1. 01Problem brief
  2. 02EDA notebook
  3. 03Baseline model
  4. 04Evaluation
  5. 05Error analysis
  6. 06Model card
  7. 07Recommendation

What a reviewer checks

  • Target/metric valid for question
  • Leakage actively checked
  • Model compared to baseline
  • Metric interpreted correctly
  • Limitations and risks explicit
  • Changed evaluation condition can change recommendation

Day 5 · Capability Showcase

Your work has to survive a changed case.

On Day 5 you present the work, explain key decisions, identify limitations and respond when part of the case changes. The final proof pack is submitted after that challenge.

  1. Present

Walk the reviewer through the work and the decisions behind it.

  2. Question

Answer challenges on evidence, assumptions and risk.

  3. Adapt

Reviewer changes the metric or supplies a shifted sample

  4. Defend

Submit the final proof pack and explain what changed and why.

A little more clarity

Questions worth asking.

Is a Capability Sprint just a short course?

No. It is a focused live capability studio built around doing one bounded kind of professional work, receiving feedback, revising it and demonstrating what you can do.

Will this make me a data scientist?

No. The Sprint builds one bounded capability: build and evaluate one bounded baseline model and explain when its result should or should not be trusted. This is Data Science Foundations, not a five-day pathway to "become a data scientist." SkillsNCR does not promise a role, job or placement.

Do I need prior experience?

Required: basic Python. Helpful: basic descriptive statistics. Entry gate: Python — a short readiness check before enrolment. Learners who are not ready are routed to Python for Data Work, not admitted with hidden homework.

What will I produce?

Problem brief, EDA notebook, Baseline model, Evaluation, Error analysis, Model card, Recommendation.

What does a Sprint cost?

₹2,000 for the complete five-day Sprint.

How long is it?

Days 1–4 are 90-minute live sessions. Day 5 is an extended 2–3 hour Capability Showcase.

When is the next cohort?

This Sprint runs on request — for a group, an employer or a college, or when waitlist demand justifies it. Request it on WhatsApp for yourself or your team.

Can I join only one Sprint?

Yes. Each Sprint is designed to provide standalone value.

Does this guarantee a job or placement?

No. WorkReady is paid professional capability development, not a job or placement service. SkillsNCR does not guarantee employment, placement, salary or interview outcomes.
